MXL plans to release this new tube microphone in 2010 and draws on many of the characteristics and successes of their earlier Genesis model.
The Revelation is a multi-pattern large diaphram tube condenser microphone based around a carefuly selected EF86 pentode vacuum tube at the factory. As apposed to the Genesis, the Revelation capsule comes with a continuously-variable pickup pattern that can be adjusted with a dial on the power supply to fall anywhere between Omni to Cardioid to Figure-of-8.
The main power supply will also provide a -10dB pad, high-pass filter and a phase reversal switch.
An attractive metal mesh grill surrounds the microphone capsule and MXL claims that a “tuned grill cavity” is employed to “reduce standing waves and harmonic distortion.”
The Revelation will ship with the tube power supply, a 15-foot Mogami power cable, a 15-foot Mogami XLR cable, an elastic shock mount, and a cleaning cloth, all of which fit into the included aluminum flight case.
