I really doesn't matter which kind you use, just use one if you are a compassionate person.  There are few things that are more difficult in dealing with during a mix than a poorly recorded vocal.  Proper pop placement is about the width of your hand between lips and mic.  And another trick is point the mic towards the floor a tiny bit, not directly at the singers gob.  A TINY bit.

If you're asking if there's any difference in the sound, the answer is no. not at all. throw some nylon tights over a bent coathanger and you'll do the job of removing plosives. However, as theclyde said, the more expensive ones are usually more rigid and you don't have to fiddle with them as much to place them. I've got one that's got a little gel plastic nub at the end of the clamp that presumably is supposed to help it clamp to the microphone stand. It doesn't, it just makes clamping it down harder. So, stay away from that one, otherwise, the only advice I can think of is to get one with a fairly rigid gooseneck. You'd be surprised how many artists have no idea what the pop filter is there for and just move it out completely if it starts to slip in session.

I haven't seen much research indicating one pop filter is better than another.  The important part is that you use one.

Maybe if you have someone that is really a windbag you may want to look into a double or tripple layer pop filter, but I would guess this is a pretty rare case.

the expensive ones cost more. They might also have higher quality/longer lasting goose necks and clamps. But functionality wise, it is all the same.

use your sisters tights if you have to its all the same....when i said use them i mean stretch them over a metal coat hanger bent into a circle....not wear them

    • I agree, although if wearing your sisters tights gets you a better vocal performance...I say go for it!

There's 2 types of pop shields, one for directional mics SM57/58 etc(usually on a bendy mic stand attachment) and the other for omini condensor mics Neumann U-87 etc (they fit snuggly over the mic head).
