We're currently working on a new gear section for the site that will allow you to review, discuss, and vote on different pieces of recording gear.  You will also be able to add the gear that you own or that you want to your profile for other members to see.

We want your input!

We know you have all been to other gear review and discusion sites and this is your chance to tell us what you think:

  1. What do you not like about other gear review and discussion sites?
  2. What do you like about other gear review and discussion sites?

Here's your chance to influence the site...let us know what you think.

I think it is a wonderfull idea, I always have questions about products and what people think of them and how they use them. It sucks sometimes when you go on sites to find reviews for a product you are interested in and either not finding much user feedback or finding people that don't know how to use it making unvalid reviews. al least here you can get a feel for some of the peoples knowlage and trust their opinion. so yeah, great idea guys!

    • That's what we hope to do adubproductions. Plus I want everyone to have their own little studio section that they can add the gear they currently have or want. Should help with answering questions plus have a little fun. Thanks for the feedback!

The reviews on the other boards are bottomless pits of personal snipes.  An opinion is requested, an honest answer is given, and the chest pounding/gutter sniping begins.  I've given negative reviews to popular pieces of gear and the respone is usually the same:  "Oh yeah!? I've made hit records with xyz!"  It's kinda like the "Oh yeah, my dad can beat up your dad!!" It seems that engineers are extremely thin skinned and take opinions on a very subjective topic way too personally.  There are mixers whose work I admire but I wouldn't use some of the gear they do at gun point.

It comes down to a matter of taste.  While it's informative to read what other peoples are usuing, the only way to know if it's something that you'll use is to demo it in your studio.  I dunno.  If the sissy slap-fighting can be kept out of the discussion, sure, I'd love to hear what other engineers are usuing.

    • Great feedback Mix Master. I totally agree with the points you are making. We try as hard as possible to keep this site a positive experience for everyone.

There are petlny of really bad mics and pres down in the cheap range that you will never get decent results with…But I can note that you can get decent stuff used in this soft buyers market that is happening right now…Ive bought AT40 series for the same price used as some new Behringer stuff goes for new…that is a point that needs to be made.As far as Im concerned you can pay for a u47…but get a similer sound out of an AT4047…Ill go for the Audio Technica every time…that allows me to have this hobby and eat too.
