I'm hoping some of you have a coupld of good resources or at least a few links to decent video tutorials for micing guitar cabinets.

I'm not looking for any type of mic cabinet in particular --any ole cabinet will do.  I'm just looking for some new ideas to freshen up the mind.

Thanks!

When I've been looking around for new tips, I don't think you can really beat this guy. He goes over the basic principles but I think a lot of people forget these and people can learn something they didn't know before from this. I found it very useful! It's good just to remind yourself again about the basic principles of recording a guitar and this guy goes over it well.

This isn't a video tutorial, but I stumbled across this recently, and it's VERY useful! A lot of detailed info is here, and it's got sound examples of the different mic placement which he used.

Have a look through these and hopefully this'll give you some more ideas on how to record guitars I hope this helps you out.

Here is a video that I made to show how different mic positions and microphones can make a guitar cab sound different. I hope you enjoy it.

From my experience I wouldn't say following somebody elses techniques is always the best way of finding the sound you want. I've always started with sevaral mics placed slightly off from the center of the cone, then slowly make movements with the microphone in all directions and listen for the "sweet spot", or just listen for the tone you like the best. Then simply pick one or two of the mics you feel sound best for the song. (Obviously it helps to have an assistant to do this in a timely fashion)

Don't forget to check for phasing issues. Hope this helps. :)

My go-to setup for auiostcc is 2 SDC mics, one 8-18″ from the 12th fret, and one roughly 6-12″ pointing straight down toward the nut. I adjust distance depending on the character of the guitar – that’s where proximity effect can be a nice advantage, especially when a guitar is extra bright.Almost every time I need to record an auiostcc, I try something different, just to see how it’ll sound, but I always seem to come back to this setup.
